Summer is just around the corner and soon the Beer Garden and Courtyard will be sizzling.

We are delighted to announce that we have our new summer menu ready for you to sample. Tuck into some moules with a nice glass of dry white wine, enjoy our new favourite – prawn and chorizo risotto – or indulge yourself with your favourite burger. You can see it all on our Menu page.

Give us a call on 01736 753223, book online or pop in – we’re open seven days a week from Noon till 10pm and we look forward to welcoming you soon.

We are delighted to announce that the Ale & Cider Festival will be taking place over the weekend of Friday 5th, Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th of April 2024.

We’ve brought a load of your favourite Ales/ Ciders and a few obscure ones that you might never have tried before to the Red River for its famous Beer Festival.

There will be beers & ciders from around the world (but mainly our amazing Cornish range), wholesome food and entertainment everyday of the festival starting with The Wave Machine  and Sandy Acre 7 on the Friday, Ben Bowden and Baby Brew and finishing with Scenic Route and Sinpusher on Sunday. Join us for what promises to be an excellent weekend.

Our Curry & Quiz Nights are held on Thursday evenings during the winter. Enjoy a curry and a pint (or glass of wine) for only £15 and pit your wits against the quizmaster. £2 per person to enter – winner takes all.

Choose from a selection of meat, fish and vegan curries, all served with rice and a choice of either poppadoms or naan bread and you can wash it down with a pint or glass of wine.

Our first Curry & Quiz Night will be on Thursday 23rd of November and will continue on every Thursday throughout the winter.

The days are shortening as we head into Winter so its time to turn our thoughts to breezy beach walks, lazy afternoons with the Sunday papers and washing down a well earned roast dinner with a glass of wine or pint of ale at ‘The Red’.

We are delighted to announce that our Red River Roasts will be back on the menu from Sunday 10th of September.

This Winter we will be serving you topside of beef, pork belly with Godrevy apple sauce and Tregothnan haunch of venison accompanied by yorkshire pud’s and all the trimmings. Keep your eyes peeled for our guest roasts when pheasant and partridge appear on the menu.

We will be serving from noon till 6pm every Sunday from the 10th off September onwards.

Sundays are usually our busiest day of the week so we advise that you book well in advance. Book a table through our website or give us a call on 01736 753223.

Well that was about as good as we could have possibly imagined.

You need a lot of things to fall  into place to host and run a successful surf comp. Good organisation, good prizes, good vibes but most importantly, a little bit of luck.

The 2023 No Pro was blessed with it all and sandwiched between two wild, stormy September days we awoke on Saturday to find lovely surf and decent weather. A miracle.

There are so many people that we need to thank. The competitors who threw themselves into it with enthusiasm without being hyper-competitive and the army of volunteers who willingly gave their time to help put on this event. Special thanks go to Gab, Billy and Freddie from Gwithian Academy of Surfing, Evan, Harry & Finn from the RNLI, Dave Foster (a former English Surfing Champion who came down from London to judge), Tristan Easterbrook, Scraps, Milky (Hayle based tuna fisherman who provided the ice for the cooler!) and Alex and Max from Gwithian Farm Campsite over the road. We also have to mention Head Chef Reuben for the stupendous curries he put on for the competitors and Dan for his endless patience.

A huge shout out to our sponsors.

Down the Line Surf Co in Hayle started the No Pro event back in 1994 and we are proud to carry on with their good work. They provided us with some sensational prizes that were very well received by the finalists,  discount codes for all competitors as well as all important logistical help with putting on the event.

St Ives Brewery kept us well lubricated throughout the event and kindly lent us their Pop Up Tents to keep the sun off the judges and Harry from Deray Apparel ( a young Cornish surf company) who chipped in with some prizes as well as judging. Competitors were also grateful to receive a weekend of free camping at Prosper House Camping as well as gallons of Marlish Spring Water from Sam Savage.

We also have to mention Sue Nicholls at Cornwall Council. She is the unsung hero of this event who works tirelessly in the background to make sure that we are able to use the beach with the permission of the National Trust and other beach owners. Without her there would be no event at all.

See y’all next year!

The Wave Machine is multi-instrumentalist Angus Trott’s solo project. His music is a blend of live looping guitar, bass, trumpet and percussion, inspired by the ways of the ocean. The unique combination of sounds is infused with good vibes, providing a chilled out and uplifting atmosphere for listeners.

This Friday The Wave Machine will be opening the No Pro Surf Comp weekend from 7pm onwards in the Stables Bar.

When he played at the Beer Festival he had the crowd eating from his hand. Make the most if the chance to see him before he’s too big for us!

For a taster of what this amazing musician has in store for you then head to his Spotify.

Tyler Crewes is a singer/songwriter who has descended from Cornish surfing royalty and will be making some noise in the Stable Bar on Saturday 23rd of September from 8pm. Tyler has a passionate local following who will be introduced to a special guest during this evenings set.

This is going to be a great finale to the No Pro Surf Competition so don’t miss out.

You can check out some of his songs at his Soundcloud.

This September we are stoked to announce that we will be hosting the No Pro Surfing Competition.

Down the Line Surf Co, Prosper House Camping, the Gwithian Academy of Surfing and the National Trust have joined us in ensuring that this is the best one yet.

The competition is for non sponsored surfers (or surfers who haven’t been sponsored for ten years) and is a grass roots event aimed at unleashing our competitive spirits in a relaxed environment. The event will be taking place over the weekend of the 23rd of September and we have a Mens, Women’s, U16 Mens and U16 Women’s categories.

The plan is to run (and complete) the event on Saturday but we do have permission to run on Sunday as well if the surf is uncooperative.

The competition is already fully prescribed for surfers and we will making the draw in the Red River Inn at 6:30pm on the evening of Friday 22nd of September just before The Wave Machine takes to the stage at 7pm to perform a few of his latest songs.

The first competitors will be in the water by 8am on Saturday 23rd.

After the finals the prize-giving will be at the Red River Inn at around 7pm with food available for all competitors.

We are also lucky enough to have Tyler Crewes playing some tunes in the Stable Bar (next to the Red River Inn) from 8pm so even if your surfing career has got off to a rough start in round one then there is still something to look forward to!

This should be a fabulous weekend and we look forward welcoming you.

Join us this Friday for a sumptuous BBQ feast cooked over hot coals and charcoal.

After the success of the last BBQ night we’re really going for it this time – flame grilled mackerel, seared rosemary marinated steak and fire-roasted fish tacos to name just three of the mouth-watering treats that we have in store for you. You can view the full BBQ Menu here.

The food will be sizzling from 5:30pm onwards and when it’s gone it’s gone so it’s worth booking.

Give us a call on 01736 753223 or send us an email to
